Description
Willow oak is a moderately sized tree, growing 80-100 feet in height, native to western and middle Tennessee. Willow oak is intolerant of shade and fire. It grows rapidly in moist bottomlands in a mix with water oak, swamp laurel oak, swamp chestnut oak, sweetgum, American elm, green ash, and loblolly pine. Willow oak is commonly used in landscaping as a shade tree, and its acorns are a valuable wildlife browse. Willow oak can be planted in bottomlands for large-scale pulpwood production.
