Description
Bur oak is a moderately sized tree, growing 60-80 feet in height, native to the Highland Rim in Tennessee. Like overcup oak, bur oak is moderately tolerant of shade, has a slow growth rate, and is relatively long-lived. Bur oak grows on a wide variety of soils and sites, often found growing with sweetgum, red maple, American elm, white oak, chestnut oak, and shagbark hickory. Acorns are eaten by wood ducks, squirrels, and white-tailed deer. Its wood is used in furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and trim.
