Description
Pin oak is a moderately sized tree, growing 80-90 feet in height, native to much of western Tennessee and the Highland Rim. Pin oak is intolerant of shade and fire. It grows on poorly drained clay soils and can withstand winter flooding. It is commonly planted as a shade tree and food source for mallards, wood ducks, squirrels, turkeys, and white-tailed deer. Its wood can be used for commercial products; however, its typical knotty qualities limits timber value.
