Virginia pine, Pinus virginiana
SPECIES SOLD ONLY IN LOTS OF 25 (order amount must be divisible by 25).
Description
Virginia pine often has an irregular, scraggly growth form and is shorter than many other pine species, growing 70-80 feet in height. Virginia pine typically re-colonizes bare soil in full sun after a major disturbance event by producing large quantities of seeds and growing very rapidly. Virginia pine’s roots are shallow, and trees are most often damaged by strong winds, rodents, fire, and southern pine beetle. Virginia pine has historically been used for Christmas trees. Its lumber is often knotty, making it less valuable than other Southern pines.
All pine species are treated with Permethrin insecticide.
