Description
Water oak is a moderately sized tree, growing 70-90 feet in height, native to western Tennessee and the southern Cumberland Plateau. Water oak is intolerant of shade and fire. It grows rapidly in moist bottomlands in a mix with willow oak, swamp laurel oak, swamp chestnut oak, sweetgum, American elm, green ash, and loblolly pine. Water oak is commonly used in landscaping as a shade tree. It can also be planted in bottomlands for large-scale pulpwood production.
