Description
Shumard oak is a moderate to large tree, growing 90-100 feet in height, native to all but the easternmost counties of Tennessee. Shumard oak is intolerant of shade and must have full sun to become established. Shumard oak often grows in mixed stands with cherrybark oak, swamp chestnut oak, willow oak, ash, American beech, yellow-poplar, and loblolly pine. Its wood is commercially valuable for furniture, cabinetry, flooring, and molding.
