Description
Overcup oak is a moderately sized tree, growing 70-90 feet in height, native to the western third of Tennessee. Overcup oak is moderately tolerant of shade, has a somewhat slow growth rate, and is long-lived with a maximum age around 400 years. Overcup oak tolerates wet, poorly drained sites and late spring flooding. It generally grows in a mixed stand with water hickory, American elm, green ash, red maple, and willow oak. Acorns are eaten by wildlife but are less valuable compared to other white oaks. Overcup oak has little to no commercial value, producing very low-quality lumber.
